Information for Prospective Members
Prospective members will not need to audition to join the Chorale. We are made up of people with various degrees of musical experience, from the driver who likes to sing along with the radio to the degreed musician. Our musical selections for each semester take this into account; we perform really easy pieces, as well as one or two challenge pieces.
Schedule & Location
Our seasons are based on college semesters; our fall season usually begins in September and lasts until mid-December; our spring semester begins in mid-January and spans until mid-May. Normally, we practice each week, including some state/federal holidays. Attendance isn't mandatory, however we prefer that members attend at least three rehearsals a month in order to keep up with all that we're learning.
We practice on Tuesday nights, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church. The church is located in downtown Frankfort, near the Singing Bridge. Parking is free in the Sullivan garage, located behind the church. To find our room, enter through the church's back door opposite the parking garage, then go up the steps to the second floor, then take a left into the Music Suite.
Fees
To belong to the Chorale, we do require you to pay a $15.00 registration fee to offset music purchase expenses. You'll also need to purchase a Chorale polo shirt (cost approximately $25) and black folder for community performances. (The Chorale makes no money from the shirt purchase, this is at cost.) For our formal performances, we ask that men wear tuxedos, and women wear long-sleeved black blouses with long black skirts. We provide help either through scholarships to cover prospective members' costs, or help in acquiring formal outfitting. All you need to do is ask!
Performances
We have two main performances each year: a spring concert in mid-May and a Christmas concert in mid-December. These concerts are formal, and we perform all of the semester's music at these venues. In addition, we perform on several occasions throughout the semester, such as events at the Capitol, at churches, or for organizations such as nursing homes or Stewart Home. Your attendance isn't mandatory at these events, however you'll want to come because they are such a fun way to become involved with the community!
